17-U Illinois Wolves Use Balanced Attack To Take Down 6-11 DaShonte Riley, 6-9 Derrick Nix And 6-8 Donnovan Kirk And The Family 58-41 At King James Classic

The 17-U Illinois Wolves opened the King James Shooting Stars Classic with a big 58-41 win over a The Family team that featured 6-11 DaShonte Riley, 6-9 Derrick Nix and 6-8 Donnovan Kirk. Pool play action continues this morning at 8:00 a.m.

The game started slowly with both teams feeling out one another as the Wolves went into halftime with a 16-11 advantage. The pace picked up in the second half with The Family using a 7-5 run to close to within 21-18.

However, the Wolves then used a balanced attack to blow the game wide open with a 13-2 run to push out to a 34-20 advantage. A pair of free throws by Derrick Tartt pushed the Wolves out to a 43-22 advantage ahead of the final score of 48-41.

The balanced Wolves attack featured solid efforts from Tartt, David Bryant (Batavia), Diamond Taylor (St. Joseph), Conrad Krutwig (Jacobs), Joseph Bertrand (Sterling), Dyricus Simms-Edwards (Washington) and Zeke Schneider (Metamora).

The Wolves will continue in pool play with a game against the Carolina Celtics this morning.
