The 16-U Illinois
Wolves opened the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions with a big
bang by defeating a highly regarded Boo Williams team 86-82.
Head coach
Jeff Carpenter's 16-U Wolves have played extremely well as a
team throughout the spring. Alex Dragicevich (Glenbrook North),
Rahjan Muhammad (Neuqua Valley) and Wayne Simon (Fenwick) led
the winning effort against Boo Williams.
The Wolves also received a strong effort from Class of 2011
standout Chasson Randle (Rock Island), who is playing up an age
division for the tournament. 6-7 Bledi Dervishi (Downers Grove
South) gave the team a major boost with his play inside.
The 17-U Wolves put a strong effort before falling to the World
Wide Renegades 72-64. Illinois-bound Joseph Bertrand (Sterling)
led the team with 16 points. Dyricus Simms-Edwards (Washington)
and Conrad Krutwig (Jacobs) scored 14 and 12 points
respectively. Krutwig scored his points ahead of going down with
an ankle injury that will likely sideline him for the balance of
the tournament. The team also played without Derek Tartt
(Brewster Academy) who will not arrive until tonight due to
graduation.
